Southern Meadows has golf lessons for all levels of golfer. Whether you are an absolute beginner, a scratch golfer who wants some help or anywhere in between, our resident PGA Professional can get you on the right track.

Mike Clawson is a PGA Member with over 20 Years of instructional experience
successfully teaching all levels of golfer.

Don’t get bogged down with computer printouts and swing analysis comparisons to Tiger Woods’ swing. Many teaching professionals rely heavily on these ‘marketing gimmicks’ to attract customers with high-tech solutions. This works for about 2% of the population.

A good golf swing is rhythm, balance and technique; poetry in motion.
To achieve this there is no substitute for a keenly trained eye of a good teacher. Mike can detect swing flaws just by observation and come up with solutions that anyone can understand and perform. Why not take a golf lesson that will increase your enjoyment of the game of golf and decrease frustration.

Things to Know

(Be welcome at any course)

Speed of Play

  • Allow faster players to play through.  Most people don't mind if you're slow if you let them through so they are not held up.

  • Limit the number of strokes and practice swings you take on any hole (including misses).  Too many will just make you tense anyway.

  • Be ready to make your shot as soon as it is your turn and the golfer ahead is safely out of range.

  • Record your scores at the next tee, not at the green.

  • Play one ball per hole. (Some groups do allow occasional mulligans).

  • Spend no more than two minutes looking for lost balls.  (If you need more time, wave the group behind you to play through.)

Safety

  • Never stand ahead (or even directly beside) a person hitting a golf ball.  Even pros miss-hit occasionally.

  • Watch out for other golfers in your group when you swing.

  • Always yell "fore" when you see your ball heading toward another golfer - and duck when you hear someone yelling fore. Be aware of others anywhere on the course who could be sending a ball in your direction.

  • Be sure the players ahead of you are out of range of your ball before you take your swing.

  • It is not safe for more than two people to occupy a riding cart.

  • Drive carts responsibly.  They can hurt people and damage the course.

Care of the Course

Greens, Tees, and Fairways take a lot of work to keep them in the beautiful condition you see.  They take a lot of traffic and need everyone's help to keep them looking and playing great.

  • Replacing divots and repairing ball marks is the number one thing you should do. It takes weeks for grass to grow back and any you kill probably is gone for the season.

  • Drive riding carts only on paths or alongside the fairway.  Most courses will allow crossing the fairway at a 90 degree angle to get to your ball.

  • Always be careful on the greens. Maintaining a smooth putting surface is critical to everyone's game.

  • Do not take beverages onto the greens where they could spill and kill the grass.

  • Do not throw clubs or drop flags.

  • Never run on the greens.

  • Keep riding carts 30 feet away from the edge of the green.

  • Put smoking materials and trash in the containers provided on the course.
