Mike Fischer designed and built Southern Meadows with the dream
of creating a course where golfers of varying abilities could all
have fun together. In his words, "I have long felt that golf has two
categories of player; 20 and under handicappers and the 90 percent
that comprise the rest of us. Most golfers can't hit a ball 250
yards, reach a long par four in two strokes for a birdie putt, and
will never reach a par five in two for a chance at an eagle. This
course plays like a regulation course: it is just shorter. Two of
the par fours are over 380 yards, still a respectable distance.
While not easy, Southern Meadows gives the golfer who cannot hit a
drive 250 yards a fair chance at a birdie." There is no water in
play and the fairways are wide. The greens are undulating. The
result is that this is a place where an experienced golfer and a
beginner both can enjoy their round.
Construction began on what was the Pigott farm in the summer of
1993, and the course opened to play July 4, 1995. Superintendent Dan
Park has been with Southern Meadows since construction began. Pat
Gillen is our Pro Shop Manager, and John Cosmano our PR Ranger.
